Dryer fabrics
Dryer fabrics are specialized industrial textiles used in the drying section of paper machines—they're critical in papermaking.
What Are Dryer Fabrics?
Dryer fabrics (also called dryer screens or dryer felts) are high-performance woven meshes made from synthetic fibers like polyester, polyamide, or PPS. They're used to carry the paper sheet through drying cylinders—a hot section of the papermaking machine where moisture is removed.
Function in Papermaking
1. Support – They hold the wet paper sheet firmly against the heated cylinders.
2. Airflow – Their mesh structure allows hot air to pass through and evaporate water.
3. Tension & Tracking – They maintain tight contact with the drying drums and stay aligned under constant movement and heat.
Types of Dryer Fabrics
4. Single Layer – Basic structure, suitable for slower machines or less demanding applications.
5. Double Layer – Offers better stability and durability.
6. Triple Layer – High-end fabrics for high-speed machines; superior sheet handling and wear resistance.
7. Spiral Dryer Fabrics – Made by joining spiral loops, offering high permeability and easy installation.
